If you are like me, then you start every year with a plan to achieve something amazing!
For a lot of my students, that ‘something amazing’ is to improve their English. They want to be able to use real English and communicate with confidence. But it can be difficult to hold on to that new year’s resolution. Life gets busy, jobs get in the way, the months start to fly past and then another year is over. Does that happen to you?!
What you need is an ENGLISH CALENDAR!
Some of it might seem a bit scary but no harm can come from trying! You can do it to whatever level you are. In other words, if you are a beginner, just keep it simple but if you are advanced, then really push yourself with each task.
*If you click on the words in bold in the calendar, they will give you more support for those tasks.
| JAN | Find the lyrics for your favourite English song and sing along until you know it! |
| FEB | Write a paragraph about your hometown and its location |
| MARCH | Email a travel agency requesting a brochure on your favourite areas to visit |
| APR | Find a podcast on a topic you like and listen as often as you can this month |
| MAY | Plan a train journey using the national rail website |
| JUNE | Join a forum and add your own comments to the discussion |
| JULY | Contact an English college asking for details about a course you like the look of |
| AUG | Keep an English journal for the month. Describe what you did each day |
| SEPT | Choose an English book to read – I often recommend ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar |
| OCT | Research the best interest rates on savings accounts |
| NOV | Write a postcard telling ‘an English friend’ what is happening in your life |
| DEC | Send a Christmas text message to somebody |
It’s that simple! If you follow the calendar each month, you WILL improve your English. Give it a try – No excuses this year š
And feel free to share it with your friends and family of course. Learning a language can feel overwhelming by yourself so why not tackle this calendar together?!
QUESTION: Which month are you most excited about trying? Let me know in the comments section below!
