Imagine an English speaker is visiting your city and you want to recommend a place……Well here are 7 very natural phrases that native English speakers use!
7 useful phrases to recommend a place
Make sure you go to Regent’s Park. It’s a lovely place for a picnic.
Have you been to Primrose Hill yet? The view is incredible!
You really should visit Spitalfields Market. You can pick up some great bargains!
Buckingham Palace is an absolute must-see!
Covent Garden is definitely worth visiting. It’s a great place to people-watch!
I’d do a boat trip along The Thames if I were you.
Why don’t you do a bus tour? That way you can see all the famous landmarks.
It’s worth noting I haven’t actually used the word ‘recommend’. The phrases in bold above are much more natural and you can just change the other parts of the sentence.

What about some nice adjectives to recommend a place?
I’ve used incredible, lovely and great. Here are some others that work well:
- stunning/amazing/breath-taking view
- pretty/beautiful/lovely area
- quirky/unusual/trendy/lively part of the town
Practise your writing
Copy the sentences below into your notebook – Really do this, writing things down yourself is a great way to make the language stick!
Then imagine I’M coming to visit YOU! Where would you recommend? Fill the gaps with recommendations and ideas from your own town/city.

- _______________ is an absolute must-see of course!
- _______________ is definitely worth visiting.

Practise your speaking
Can you remember the sentences you wrote down? Try to say them (to a friend, or into the mirror!) without looking in your notebook. Continue to do this until you can do it perfectly with natural intonation!
Well done! Now you know how to recommend a place using lovely, natural language and you have some great phrases for giving other advice too!

I’ve already used some of this phrases when I describing cities and places. I’m also very happy I learned some new phrases and more happy because some of phrases I use are here like polite ways to describe places.
