Phrases to use in a work meeting

Recently a lot of my English learners have let me know that they regularly use English at work and sometimes they feel stuck for what to say in a meeting.

So I’ve put together a quick ‘cheat sheet’ of common meeting phrases that you can use when you want to….

  • start the meeting / introduce a new idea to the meeting
  • clarify something that you’re not sure you’ve understood correctly
  • politely interrupt
  • or bring the meeting to an end

Have a look at the image below. You might find the list overwhelming though. I’d suggest choosing your two favourite phrases from each section and learning those word for word.

It’s always much better to know 2 phrases perfectly than 5 phrases with mistakes!

(You can save, download or share that image too!)

Once you’ve chosen the phrases you like, make sure you practise them! Try covering them and see if you can remember them from memory the following day.

So, which one do you think you might use in your next meeting – Why? Leave me a reply below!

If you found these meeting phrases useful, you might also like my cheat sheet for email language.
